Some people call those the "catwhiskers", and originally, they did curl up, both fore and aft. But the reproduction ones, which are the only ones available, do not. As you can see, they are just one long piece. You will need to cut some off. You did not ask, but if you are interested, the best way to attach them is with the smallest flat head screws you can find. The screwhead will vanish into the felt. Much easier than trying to attach with staples as original.
