You can get it at various home centers in the flooring section. I have been told it helped prevent squeeks, vapor/dust barrier. I've heard this was more important when they had coal burning furnaces in the cellar, that this heavy paper barrier kept the coal dust from working its way up through the cracks of your hardwood floors. This heavy paper is redish-brown and comes in 3' rolls.
