After he won just about every trophy on the water, Carl Kiekhafer finally ran his company bankrupt racing a team of Chrysler 300s at Daytona and elsewhere on the AAA racing circuit before NASCAR, back when all the other round track guys were running Fords, Chevvies, Pontiacs, and Oldsmobiles. He supposedly said "You can make a small fortune racing- - - -but you gotta start with a BIG fortune!"
