1956 Chevy 3100 stepside pickup with 235 6 cylinder:
Check these two pictures, please. One, is there too much gap from trans to yoke? Just finished putting in new U-joints on the driveshaft so even though it was getting pretty hot I decided to put the shaft in. Sure appears to be a lot of spline shaft showing.
Two, while reassembling the engine I noticed this item just nearly touching the exhaust flange. I'm just guessing, but I think it is the old temperature sending unit. There's a newer one on the head that has a wire thru the firewall with a slide-on clip that I think goes on it. I left this old unit on the engine since there is no opening for it to leak fluids. What is this if not a sending unit?
