Here it is 2 months later, and it just gets better. I found the stamps on the diff, and they are J E 614. That tells me it is a 1951. Three questions--what is the gear ratio inside? Two--we know the frame is 53 or older. Are 53 and 51 frames the same? Third-- in pursuit of an open drive line, what later pumpkins are a direct bolt in? I would rather replace just the pumpkin instead of the entire axle if possible. I think the main issues are the bolt pattern of the carrier to the axle housing, and the compatibility of the axle shafts.
