Hy Ribside, I don't know why GM Canada built Canadian GMC light trucks the way they did, possibly no casting capacity for making the better engineered GMC engine. The GMC engine is a bit longer than the Chevy engine, that requires a different frame front crossmember. As far as the American GMC frames being "heavier" I have no way to prove or disprove that statement.
