You may want to verify which type of lifters has been installed, since your engine has been rebuilt. It's not uncommon to see solid lifters replace the hydraulic lifters at rebuild time.

I have no experience with hydraulic lifter 235 engines. I will read up on them.

After my current project (1937 Chev Coupe Express) is drivable; I intend to graft this 235 engine into a 1950 Chev half ton that has a 3 spd on the column.

With an actual shop, a lot more will get accomplished.
