I agree for the most part about original drive line being adequate. My '57 2 ton now sports a 2 speed axle with 6.80/8.20 or something close to that. With 10R-22.5 drive tires that are over 40 inches tall, it can run 60 mph, GPS says I can hit 63 mph at 4100-4200 rpm. Factory governed rpm is 4000.
