The reason was that police cars have plate readers that tell the cops if the plate is expired or stolen; therefore no need for stickers!
Some BC drivers had issues outside BC. Cops would pull them over and give them a ticket for expired plates. Trying to tell a cop that stickers were not being issued anymore was a hard sell. I removed the stickers from my plates which was PITA!
