I have purchased 2 sets of NOS 1.94" intake valves off Ebay in the past few months. I paid $98.00 for one set and $112.00 for the second, both were free shipping. The NOS stuff is still out there, you just have to find it.
Jerry, that's a good tip on using the BBC exhaust valve. Would it be possible to share a picture of a modified valve?
