If you do start it up occasionally, let it run to reach full operating temperature and let it go for 30 minutes or so as if it were being driven.

Short runs allow blowby gases and condensation to settle in the crankcase, turn to acid, contaminate the oil, and cause rust and pitting on internal parts.

I think I would leave the engine off and sealed up
