The magnifying glass search I believe has built in UBB limitations that are not found in the "Search the Site" tool.
You can find the link to "Search the Site" in the left margin boxes using most computer and tablet applications, but to see it on a phone, you need to turn your phone sideways to get the whole page to display the left margin things. Otherwise look at the top of each forum page header as there is a "Search" link to tap on to take you to the search feature.
