I had to shorten the input shaft on my T5, old notes are somewhere but memory is that I made the T5 shaft the same length as the SM420 (cut 1/2 or so off?). And I lengthened the splines with the same cutoff wheel used to adjust the T5 input shaft length. Not pretty but it's been doing the job for 10 years and almost 20k miles.
