Back in the 1960s when I did tire repair at a full service station, I hated those things with a purple passion! They had a bad habit of not fitting flush with the tire sidewalls, and sometimes creating rim air leaks when they were used with tubeless tires. They can also make for tricky problems with wheel balance. Maybe they've gotten better since then?
