i have an old fashioned stone, with a gritty side and a smooth side. i put a few drops of vegetable oil on the gritty side and deburr the blade. then i put a few drops on the smooth side and hone away. my pocket knife is so sharp that i quit carrying it with me becuase i am prone to slicing myself, and thos of you who have had a really sharp knife know how bad a cut that is. i use a push and pull motion, no circles or fancy spinning. push away from you on one side and pull towrds you on the other. my knives are all prett dam*ed sharp.
