MY 235 runs LOUSY pointed right at the BB. Especially under any kind of load.
It responds very well to advancing the timing a bit more than that. It would be super easy for you to experiment with more timing. Just don’t get carried away if you hear pinging.
Jerry’s exhaust obstruction idea is a good one, too.
