Bolters,
If you know me – you know I won’t fly. The family has a planned vacation in Sedona Arizona, south of Flagstaff. So – I’m driving from Morrisville Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.
My 47-3800 dually known as Deadwrench is a strong runner and I am for the most part doing this and that to it – maybe next get the wipers to behave and finish up the interior with a headliner and other trim. I don’t need much for it – until I see something……
I filled the hole in wrenching by putting a 1955 Chevrolet 210 wagon together. I need some parts like interior trim – maybe a nicer front seat, window hardware, heater stuff etc. etc.. This and that if I saw one in a scrap yard to pick at. Funny but if I see something nicer in the way of parts I would pick it up.
This leads to my post here. I’m thinking the route out:
Philadelphia-Pittsburgh-Columbus-Indianapolis-St. Louis-Oklahoma City-Amarillo-Albuquerque-Flagstaff-Sedona
The return:
Same way back to Oklahoma City then peel off and try Memphis-Nashville-Roanoke and home. Perhaps a visit to a certain Bolter who just moved to AL…….(SIR)
Anyway – Can this pool of seasoned travelers/pickers/bolters/unbolters offer any locations not too far off the 70/270/55/44/40 interstates where a man can get lost in a decent salvage yard for a few hours?
Also – any “must-see” Chevrolet focused locations ? Cool museums ? Something to break the boredom of driving.
I’m an avid photographer and look to capture some images. I’ve been known to capture a few photos of railroads and can’t wait until I get onto BNSF territory, particularly the segment between Albuquerque and Flagstaff. During my time at Amtrak I traveled back and forth across the nation a dozen times – but always in a sleeper or on the headend. Now – I get the rubber tire experience.
Any thoughts?
TY – Joe
