Harbor Freight has their small electric hoists on sale right now. They are half price. They come with a cable and remote control. I picked up the 440 lb capacity one for $59. It is going to be used to suck my table saw up into the attic of my garage when I am not using it. I'll put a safety device on it to keep it up there when I am walking underneath.
I wouldn't use one to lift an engine but they are handy for small jobs.
