I would expect your engine to at least attempt to fire, though.

What exactly is your engine doing? Is it turning over but not firing? Have you verified that the dizzy is getting electricity? How about the plugs? You can use a plug tester which is a little inline light that flashes when sparked or a screwdriver in the boot held over a good ground.
