I thingk the height difference between layers is made up with clear. Lots and lots of clear. Alot of wet sanding, polishing to end up with a 2-3 layers of clear at the thinnest point.
All base colors first, then clear on all. Make sure you get a clear that can do more than 2-3 coats. Some sold is strictly 2 coats. More than that, and it starts to ghost. I had a bit left in the gun and wanted a little more thickness in a spot. Had to wait a week, re-scuff, re-color then clear.
