The mid 1960's was about the tine Chevy switched from the Muncie SM 318 with a non-synchronized 1st. gear to the Saginaw which had synchro on 1st. Both transmissions could be ordered with the optional Borg-Warned overdrive, although OD Saginaws were exceedingly rare. The Muncie SM 318 and 319 (OD) has four bolts that attach the shift cover. A Saginaw has 7 cover bolts.
