From the instructions that Dan posted, it looks like the original speaker was surface mounted, requiring just a moderate sized hole for the wiring (big enough to fish the wire in.) I bought a drill mounted sheet metal nibbler that would make it pretty easy to cut a larger hole if your speaker needs it. It just needs a starter hole. Here's a picture of the nibbler. IIRC I paid about $25 for it.
