The 2-stud 216 valve covers are notorious for leaking, as most people overtorque the bolts and warp the cover. I like to glue the gasket down tight to the cylinder head with 3M trim cement (AKA "Gorilla Snot" by NASCAR pit crews). That provides a shallow dam for the oil and prevents seeps from under the gasket. Use a cork, NOT a rubber gasket! There was once a very nice looking aftermarket reinforcement for the valve cover that can be duplicated with aluminum plate and some creative metal butchery that looks "period-correct" and makes the cover pretty much leakproof.
