With the right cutting tool removing taps is easy. Looks to me up to a 1/2" bolt would be suitable for the repair Dragsix suggests but I only have 848 heads to look at. Be cautious with depth...on the right side of the last picture you can see the bolt boss from the inside. Too deep and you may hit water. Good luck.
