My guess is same generator but I don't know anything about building/converting a generator to 12V in DIY fashion.

Better hide the battery, the 12V markings on the coil and VR, the ballast resistor and bulbs from prying eyes. grin

The 55.2- up Chevy truck 12V generators sure seem like they are the same basic look.
