MNSMith, the measurement you describe is Backspace, not Offset.
Offset is the measurement of the distance between mounting surface and wheel center.
Positive offset places the mounting surface away from the center toward the outside of the car. Negative offset places the mounting surface away from the center toward the vehicle.
