A few months ago I pulled a 1967 Chevy C-50 out of my neighbors woods, and have been slowly working on getting it going. It has a 350 engine, SM420 transmission, the two speed rear end, and the single reservoir master cylinder with a single under cab brake booster.

When I went to work on the brakes, I noticed that someone had welded together an adapter plate and had used a Ford F600 master cylinder (Rockauto PN F22977 for $100, also known as Bendix 11129).

From some searching I did here on the board, it looks like Napa part UP 36229 ($160) was stock on this truck.

Did people commonly adapt over to the Ford master cylinder to save money? And does anyone know if there are downsides to doing this? Both are 1.5" bore, but I am unsure if they have similar throw distances.

I know I am going to have to replace my master cylinder (and probably rebuild my Midland Hy-Power booster) but I figure that if I am going to do it, I might as well do it right the first time. smile
