Per the Vehicle Information Kit, I should have a cast iron cam so it is good to know that a standard gear is fine.
The R2R distributors run a much lower voltage spark (~30k vs ~65k), but I am not building a race rig here. That should be fine for this engine.
Thanks for the tips, I will do some more reading. I am inclined toward the R2R setup with an external coil though.
