Well, those are good questions. I used a T5 out of a van, no adapter plate, didn't shorten the input shaft and I had to use the short version. There was no way the long one could be used. And even though I was fine with the short one, I had to make a different linkage rod out of 5/16" steel rod. The original rod was too long and it didn't allow the linkage to be adjusted. After I made a shorter one, all was Jake. In the image below you can see the rod I made and the threaded adjustment linkage rod...and also the original linkage. Good luck.
