49.3600,

According to a Chevrolet 1929-57 Master Parts and Accessories Catalog, your original pumpkin housing "casting" # should read 3699535. Is it possible you misread the number on your pumpkin???

A check of the 1949 Chevrolet Truck data indicates that the standard rear axle ratio for your 3600 would have been 4.57 - 1, with an optional (RPO 208) ratio of 5.14 - 1 available.

You can identify the gear ratio by using this Calculation Tech Tip, or just remove the rear cover and check the stamped ratio info on the side of the ring gear.

Hope this info is helpful?
