not stupid, maybe just not thinking far enough!
for starters, if the trucks are the same years, they'll have the same transmissions, there was only one 4 speed back then - the pto's are mostly aftermarket, whatever suits the pump and rams, if the pto fits on a 54 4400 trans, it'll fit on a 3800 trans [or it could have an engine mounted electric pump] - the 1T and 1.5T still have the same distance between the rails, so what counts is if the trucks are a similar wheel base, and the length of the deck, but that can be modified
the point is, either model could have had an aftermarket dump put on it, and the dump would be whatever the installer wanted, so all you can do is check the dimensions and see if it'll fit on yours, and see how heavy it appears, and if you think the 3800 can handle it
I put a dump setup on my 1.5T 46 that came off the ground, probably previously on a late 50's early 60's gravel truck - ya do what's needed, if you're lucky it won't take much fiddling
