That tool should work fine. Just make sure the bolts (all 4) are tightened. I fabbed us a similar tool out of some steel bar and it works on a Dana 60 axle pinion. The problem with using a pipe wrench is the teeth dig into the pinion. Not necessarily a problem, but not pretty. Not everyone has a 48" pipe wrench laying around. Buying one isn't that cheap. Coincidentally, I saw two of them at a car show yesterday used as radius arms on the front suspension of a Mack rat rod.
