Wouldn't it be simpler and involve a lot less effort to just put the HEI pickup coil and reluctor into the original distributor housing? The trigger module can be mounted anywhere as long as it's on a heat sink to prevent it from overheating, even under the dash, out of sight. A Ford or MOPAR electronic ignition coil looks almost identical to the one used with a point type ignition system, and it still produces the 50KV+ open circuit firing voltage that the big cap HEI coil does.
