Ron,

Your best option to get some essential info resources is to invest in some reproduction manuals, ie; Owner/Operator, Shop Manual and Factory Assembly Manual (FAM).

They are all readily available from various vendors for reasonable prices for the most part. Others will chime on here soon on some suggested vendors that are known to provide quality publications.

There are also a bunch of web sites with a great amount of resources to help you with your new to you truck.

Here are just a couple that I use on a regular basis:

http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/index.htm

https://xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1949-Chevrolet-Truck-R.pdf (specific for your '49 - they have many others)

https://xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/1949-Chevrolet-Truck-Engineering-Features.pdf (also specific to your '49)

https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...hevrolet-trucks/1949-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf (another '49 specific)

http://www.gmpartswiki.com/query (a search engine to aid in tracking down original parts identification, description and some pictures of your truck parts)*
* This one you will need to learn how to use.

Lots to get you going here. Good reading!!!

Dan

EDIT: Gord and Otto both beat me to the reply button - hahaha! thumbs_up
