Right side of block has what looks like the number 11 turned sideways (pics attached), but it doesn't look like the captains bars I've seen in pictures. Is that what they are?
Stamped serial number 0496758F55N seems to confirm it's a 261 from 1955. Also, head casting 3703570 indicates 261 head. Would the CON4 G57 indicate July 1957? Doesn't make sense for a 1955 engine so I'm confused. Haven't found any seven digit casting numbers anywhere else on the block, and no captains bars at all on driver's side.
