Hope these
may be of some help in solving your problem (yes I shamelessly swiped your pics and marked them up a bit).
Of note is the absence of the brake line to brake wheel cylinder hardware (red arrow on book diagram pic) that plays a big part in connecting your brake line to the cylinder.
The brake line does not directly thread into the wheel cylinder in this instance like you see on more modern set-ups.
