Make sure the newpoints set has a flat spring-steel spring and not just a brass spring (both is OK). Had this happen here on Stovebolt a few months ago and I personally troubleshot one over the phone 6 years or so back. Engine idles fine. But as RPM increases dwell decreases (points are starting to float) and by 1500 RPM or so the points are not closed long enough to allow the coil to generate a good spark.
