Thinking this "modified" version of your 1st picture I have attached is the solution you are looking for.
Your cup/column harness connector (Arrow 1) needs to be directed upwards and plugged in to your under dash harness connector (Arrow 2).
There looks to be plenty of wire length for the column harness to reach the under dash connector. Also appears that the color coded wires for both harnesses (from what can be seen) are a match and connectors should only go together one way.
