On my ‘52, the bottom is riveted with a solid rivet that has a shoulder on it to give the clearance needed to operate smoothly. The top has a shoulder bolt with a captured nut on the back side. The first picture is the bottom and the second is the top.

If you have a lathe or know a buddy that does, they are easily made.
