I picked up a big rock chip in the windshield on a gravel road north of Taos. Its time for a new windshield. The tech tip does not even mention sealant and some others such as Brothers youtube also do not mention sealant. It rains in Oklahoma and I need sealant. I just want to do it correctly. When I installed the windshield years ago I may have used too much sealant or the wrong kind because the windshield did not really drop fully into position but it never leaked.
1. What sealant do those of you that have done this successfully use? 3M 8509 and CRLaurence 7708 have been suggested.
2. Do you apply the sealant to the weather strip or to the cab?
3. The FAM page indicates three steps and #3 says apply sealant "to the flat of the windshield opening rabbet along the entire length of the pillar side...". Can anyone clarify that statement as to just where to place the sealant? It seems to me that is the same as step #2 in the FAM.
