Just purchased a 47 Gmc FC102. I owned a 47 3100 previously and it was a standard 3 speed. This truck has a 4 speed (muncie) but next to the soft knob is a lever (photo attached) Newb questions: 1. What 's the lever all about? Is that for shifting into reverse? 2. The previous owner said that the tranny is non synchronized in all gears, in going thru the gears on the road it doesnt drop into gear like my previous, there is some lite grinding before things mesh up. In researching this, looking over previous threads the muncie 4 speed should be synchronized in gears 2 thru 5. Could this grinding ( lack of synching up) be because the PO didn't use 90w mineral oil in the transmission? Thank you for your help!
Al 1947 GMC model FC102 original drivetrain 216 eng sm420 4 speed.
