I think GMC hung on to 6v longer than Chevy.

I always thought it strange that all the GM lines did whatever they wanted.

Cadillac switched to 12v in 1953.

Small (1/2 to 1 ton, maybe more) kept 6 volt positive ground in 2nd series '55 models IF the truck was stick shift AND 6 cylinder. All Hydra-Matic models and all V8 equipped were 12 volt negative ground.
