Hi all,
I've got a 41 1.5 ton all original. I was doing some regular maintenance today and popped the tranny cover off and found a bunch of chipped gears and metal shavings. I only had the truck a year, and before me it was an active fire truck, so it was probably beat on pretty good.
Just wondering what my best approach is.
Should I look to rebuild the current tranny or is it possible to switch to something with syncros? Are there any syncro trannys that matche my stock 228 or would I need to swap the bell housing/is that recommended or should I avoid it? What else would I need to look at/for?
I would prefer to go the syncro route for ease of driving.
I made a post a few weeks ago about a cracked block that I repaired... So... At this point if someone had an entire powertrain I would be interested in swapping my current motor/tranny for one that would fit and have syncros. What would be a good powertrain match that would drop in, or does one not exist?
Besides my original question on "what tranny would fit/work" does anyone have a line on transmission parts, is my best bet this forum or there is a retailer?
Thanks!
