Bread. Soft bread. No toast or dry stale bread or bagels. No waffles or pancakes. Well, pancakes might work. I read this on a forum and recently tried it to see how well it works. My bread was dry. I should have added some water. Other methods of removing a pilot bushing abound. Do NOT use this method on an LS engine or you will push some sort of important part (a cap or something) on the end of the crankshaft into a place it shouldn’t be. Stuff that can be used instead of soft bread include: Damp paper towels Damp toilet paper Bearing grease Play-Doh Bearing removal tool loaned from your FLAPS Soft putty
But soft bread DOES WORK. It leaves a few crumbs but no messy grease to wipe up and it doesn’t come shooting out if the ID of the bushing is slightly larger than your driving tool.
