Hey all,
I have a 1960 vintage 261 in a 1950 Chevy 3100. i've redone the head and had an initial start of the engine, after verifying good compression, etc., etc.
After the first 30 seconds or so of running however the engine died. I have a glass filter after the tank that looks mostly empty, and a glass filter just before the carb that is also mostly empty. I'm going to check basic fuel flow tomorrow and then check for fuel pressure but I'm pretty sure the mechanical pump is defective. They are cheap enough (around $50) that assuming the other tests are fine I'm thinking of just replacing the pump and see that it fixes it.... fastest and cheapest short term solution. (I'll eventually put in an electric pump, but for now just want to get it running).
Anyway, does anyone have specific recommendations on a specific brand, or even the series of fuel pumps that might work (year range, 216/235/261, etc.).
I believe the following item from Classic Parts is the ticket, but they are out of stock, so hoping to find one locally at Auto Zone, Advance, or Rileys... but not holding my breath..
