Tried removing shaft on my ‘55 by pushing button on side of switch, with coil spring under it, tried and tried, asked Jon how to do it, reread directions several times, was trying to figure out how to do testing and rewiring with it still behind the dash. Finally decided to give it a break before I broke it. A year or so later, someone, somewhere mentioned to try various positions of pulling out, worked great.
