I believe that the yellow goo comes from the accumulation of deposited on the inside of the tank. With leaded gas, it will stay put and not be a problem. Add ethanol to the gas and all of 70 years of deposits are dissolved and end up downstream into the fuel pump, carburetor, valve stems and seats.
