As the current owner of a '49 Chevy flatbed with the original brake drums dealing with tire/wheel/brake issues; if the original brake drums are on there, the 16 inch rims won't fit over the drum (from experience), so the drums (and maybe the rear axle) probably aren't the originals if the 16s fit.
