I rebuilt that engine in 1970 (my second and last USA engine rebuild).

It is still in my 1954 3106 (1/2 ton) Suburban.

After I put in the 3.55 R&P gears (and all new bearings/seals/etc in the torque-tube and rear axels), and after I went through a break-in procedure, I took my young professional mechanic/painter-friend for a ride on a long straight rural road. He almost wet his pants when I easily reached 93 mph. That was over 25+ years ago.

That USA 261 is a great engine. The only thing that I have changed is the carburetor.
