Ditto on jacking up the wheel. The fluid level in the differential is designed to let a little lube run out to the hubs to keep the bearings wet. Those axle flange gaskets are usually made of soft aluminum and it's a good idea to use a little brush-on gasket sealer like Permatex Super 300 or something similar on them and check the torque on the flange bolts occasionally.
